I have a 70 vw type 1 engine i built it is a 2054cc sroker engine with an engle w110 cam 009 distributor with electronic ignition and a 32/36 progressive carb i have 150 pounds of compression on all cylinders and shimmed it .100 to drop the compression down for 93 pump gas i still can not get it to crank and was wondering if the carburetor is to small for the engine or if the distributor is the issue it is timed right and the valve lash is set to the specs of the cam any ideas of why it will not crank it tries but wont start

Carb is probably jetted a bit small for that engine but it would still start and run so I would chase other avenues first.

Assuming the engine turns over:
1. do you have spark to all four cylinders?
2. is it in the correct firing order?
3. is it really in the right order and not 180 out?
4. ok on to the fuel, do you have fuel to the cylinders?
5. do you have an air leak between the carb and the head somewhere

Answer these and if you still dont have your problem solved, let us know.
