Is it possible ?
What kind of gear ratios.
Cal look car with a 170-180 hp na motor
Thought oppinions?
Should I stick with the stock gearing or what would work best so the motor doesn't bog when downshifting.
Thanks

It depends on what you can live with.. back in the 70' and 80's it was not uncommon to run stupid ratios on a daily driver Say a 1750 pound cal 1776-1835 125 130 cam 40x35 4.37 r/p 10 ish comp 3.80 2.06 148 104 165 tires.. might drive from Newhall to ocean side to visit a GF taching 4k..car ran mid high 13's on slicks and stinger no pass seats. it has been done, but would not recommend it as a steady diet.. With the very affordable 82-84 cranks, low cost CNC heads and such, it is easy to build a car that will run a second or more under those times with a standard ratio box...You have to sit back and analyze what you want and need.. if it is your only transportation.. go mild on cams, and gears and compression.. Do you have any goals, or requirements for a specific use? or is it a daily or 90/10 street strip or 50/50 Just to say 170-180 hp leaves too much room for conjecture.. To recap, you don't need close gears with a milder cam, or a bigger engine..While a 2007 or 265 can run nice and make good power, it is no where as flexible as a 2276 2332 etc.. the bigger the motor, generally the more you can push the envelope with out penalty... What is the plan .. more info...

I like the ratios for 1st and 2nd from the 67 but was wondering if it is worth to have the close ratio 3rd and 4th.
Looking to do hot street driving mostly and an occasional trip to the track.
Just looking for a good setup that will complement the whole setup. If I could use the close ratio 3rd and 4th and still be able to drive it on the freeway at 60-65 is my question. Im not very good with transmission tech talk so bare with me lol.

I drove my bug with 4.12 r/p with a 1.48/1.12 3rd and 4th.... With a 215/70 tire I was driving at 66mph at 4k on the freeway..... I did cruise at that speed but I wouldn't want to drive more than an hour at that...

Edit: I think those 3rd and 4th combo is the best of both worlds for racing and driving

Another thing is if you only do very occasional hiway travel you can have a pair of tall tires mounted and run those and carry slicks ion the car.. I have done this also and it works a 205 15 3.88 rp and 1.04 works out to about 73 mph at 4k just about a stock 40 horse with a .89 and stock tires. 73 at 4 k is MUCH nicer than 55 at 4 k

Those are the exact same gears in my oval right now...1914cc with VZ25 cam, stock ratio rockers, 9.3:1 CR, Steve Tims Signature heads, IDA's, etc...I could drive it from Covina to Vegas no problem!
