Newbie here. I own a standard '72 beetle.

I am having trouble with the distributor / timing at the moment.

The distributor clamp broke a while back, and the timing was off for a while; in which I failed to notice / take action until it started backfiring.

Presently, the continuity light does not come on, since having the new clamp installed and ready to be adjusted for timing.

Could having the timing off for that little bit have messed up the points, condenser, coil, or any other part; therefore causing the tester not to light up?

Advice / opinions much appreciated, Thanks!
