Let's just say ETR has a Love/Hate relationship with Jet Cars.
Ouch, I went to an event @ Sac when they had the jet cars and one caught on fire and scared the you know what out of one of the guys standing in the middle and he ran away and behind one of the jet cars and got tossed like a rag doll!
nevermind... I'll let Erik tell the story...
One of the few times he was not at the concession stand gettin' a Corn Dog...

Yeah, mostly hate.

Lanky, heres the short story-- I was at Sac Raceway about 4 years ago when a jet car blew up on the starting line and I caught a small piece of the engine right in the forehead above my left eye. Seven stiches and a scar later, I now have an even greater respect for jet cars.

When I say respect, I mean hate. I'm holding a grudge. :glare:

correction!!! that car was not on fire. afterburner was stuck on, the guy that got thrown, de smith jr, is the track owners son! He is fine now, lots of skin grafts and surgeries from that 1. I have seen the video. He was out of the way of the flame but got caught by the wind.

The guy's name is Ron Patrick. I contacted him just before he got his 15 minutes of fame... he wasn't the least bit interestd in bringing it out to BOR. Too bad, it could have been a fun halftime show.
Have you guys heard of the "Vulcan Shuttle"?
It was a bug with a solid propelant rocket grafted into it.
Quite comical appearance.
Life of car and driver was short.

I will see if I can find it in one of my old "Superstock" magazines.
Here it is The "Vulcan Shuttle" - 1984 Sammy ran a 3.58 seconds/386mph quarter mile (backed up) his crew chief for all those 'historic' runs was VW Action's/VWDRC's very own Keith Jackson . . . AFIK that OFFICIAL record remains unbeaten and still gives the Pod the honour of being the quickest/fastest dragstrip in the world.

Ahhh, one of those "I'm waaaaaay too cool for that" kinda guys, huh? People who think that something they own makes them a better person crack me up.

sort of... our conversation was kind wierd. He claimed he didn't need the money, and loathes the car magazines since he got a few rejections (no stickers, no AIM or Konig parts). His pepole were talking with Jay Leno's and Dave Letterman's people (he was on Letterman after he and I spoke). He claimed he'd been offered 1/2 mil for the car and turned it down, his price was $1M :wideeyed2:

the Vulcan Shuttle looks dangerous... solid rocket units are basically like a a bottle rocket or Estes rocket, 'light fuse, get away'. I don't think there is a track around that allows those anymore.

So what's the story on the Shuttle, I've never heard of it before... ??
