Ok, there are some options for lodging. Unfortunately, the campground near the Hard Rock Casino is a NO-GO. They do not allow any toy haulers, or trailered vehicles. I just came from talking with their management and was shut down hard on the idea.
Camping at the track is ok. There are no "real" restrooms, only porta-johns. There is a t-n-t on friday night and our event doesn't start until until Saturday afternoon.
There is also the host hotel, The Clarion Hotel. There is ample parking and is right on I-25. Standard Rooms are $65 and suites are $75 per night. You must reserve your room and mention "The High Desert VW Rumble" by May 24th to receive the discounted rate. You can reach the Clarion at 505-823-1300 to reserve your room.
Sounds like we will be camping at the track then. What are the details on test n tune? I'd sure like a change to get a few runs in before driving all the way there but that may be a good option for me.
Track opens at 6:00 P.M., races at 6:30, closes at 11:00. Cost is $15 to race, spectators $10. Traction is a little off compared to race night usually of course.
Sorry that the campground didn't pan out. I'm glad that I found out their rules before everyone got here.
The gates open Friday at 6 pm. It's $15 for drivers and $10 for spectators. Kids 10 and under are free. Go through tech and make as many passes as you want.
Remember too that one of our sponsors, The Dyno Edge, is offering dyno pulls on Friday Evening and Saturday morning. Call Chris @ 505-299-3313 to make an appointment.
Right now we are planning to head down on thursday and camp somewhere south of colorado state line to relax and then head to the track on Friday make a few test runs and camp at the track and relax some more.
we will be rolling in on friday afternoon, camping at the track fri and saturday nights. don't know if i want to push my luck
on a tnt fri, but i guess that will be a game time decision. bringing two quick cars this time, my brother can't get time off
of work, or there would have been three
I just received word that my turbo should be finished and on it's way back to me tomorrow. :snoopy: So it looks like my car will be at the race.
I plan on heading down sometime Thursday afternoon. If all goes well I will do the dyno on Friday sometime and maybe a run or two on Friday night. I will be staying at the track Friday and Saturday nights.

Ernie is talking about a dyno pull also on Friday. Who else is thinking about a dyno pull on Friday?
Looks like a great weekend ahead! Glad to see eveeryone is making the event. How nice would it be if some folks from Texas make the event. I will be excited to run a new track and meet some new folks in the VW family! Lets hope for thirty plus cars!

I should have my stuff back and be calling him on Monday. I plan on being in town Friday morning so setting up a time shouldn't be a problem. I won't be trying for any big HP numbers. I haven't had my car on a dyno in 4 years and I just want to check the Air/fuel ratio and make sure things are working as they should. As for the rest of Friday I'll just wait and see what's going on.
Looks like I will be cuttting it close again.. my parts will probably get here Thursday so if everything else is packed and loaded I can leave a couple hours after the big brown truck comes to visit whenever that is
Balljoints are a weak link in trucks IMHO. Even small trucks. I was on my 4th set of ball joints on my 02 S-Blazer by the time I sold it with 70k miles on it. I bought it new and kept it greased monthly and even that didn't help.
its all that weight hanging over them all the time, just pounds them out.
that's why i go slowww over train tracks, that bouncing up and down just
adds to stressing them. I did mine two years ago and man, what a pain!
i guess it doesn't help either that i've got 35's on it. but hey, at just over
100k miles on stock ball joints isn't bad at all!!
