I remember back in the day, Gene Kibler, a famous So Cal racer always came to Sac to race at BOR. We here in Nor Cal used to call him the Computer Foot because he was extremely consistant. Not to often did he lose a race, but my buddy Louie "The Flyin Hawaiin" Hughes RIP, did finally beat the Computer Foot at Louie's home track, Sac Raceway. Man dude, you just beat Gene Kibler, your going to be famous. Louie was famous in my eyes and always will be.
Louie is gone now and all that remains are great memories.

Louie was my buddy as well and he is missed
I always love to hear stories about the flyin hawaiin. Something about a guy in short-shorts and flip-flops changin trannys just seems too funny to me. RIP Louie Hughes
Dang, I didn't know Louie had past, he was one nice guy and a very good racer!

Yes, it was a sad year indeed. I saw Louie at a gas station about the middle of the year and all was great. Two or three months later I get a call, "You need to go see Louie, he's in the hospital". Ok, so he has something the doctors can fix and he's going to out soon and it's all cool. For those that knew Louie, he had that Hawaiin belly, kinda Samoan lookin. When I saw him in the hospital, he looked like he weighed under 100 lbs. The first thing he said to me was "Hey, whats up light weight" the famous Louie catch phrase. I really miss hearing him say that. Well I saw him everyday for about a week expecting him to get better and come home, but he didn't get any better. I did however say goodbye to him every time I left. He was able to leave the hospital, but as I had heard, not long after returning home, he passed. I think about Louie everytime I go to the Bug O Rama. He was in my eyes,The Ultimate VW Racer.
Louie and I go way back to the early BORs and Bug Ins, he was a very tough bracket racer and all around great guy...

Speeking of racing in flip flops, remember the toe nails griping the clutch?
I used to teas him all the time about them.
And the light weight coment, I remember riding with Louie and Clide? Berg to
Seattle to race and it took me days to recover from the contact high being in a car that long with those guy's.

LOL I hear that! ;D
It was always a good show in the finals to see Nor Cal vs So Cal. And yes Louie needed wire cutters to cut his toe nails. He was a great guy & I will miss him, we has good times at his house in Roseville & loved his VWs. Another good Louie phase was: Whats up Bitch, or the Buster Bitch!
Ok 67 cone zone, I realy don't want to "one up" you, but I thought this was a cool picture to post here. How many people can you name in this picture.

Very good grass hopper. You only missed Andy Frohrich on the far left.

Here is another one of my favorites. I was picking up Louie from the Sac airport when he came back from one of his island trips.
