You need to keep shimming until the fan doesn't hit.
Need help with a generator install.
Hi There,
My generator on my vw thing recently gave out. I have replaced several alternators and thought this would be an easy job. I was wrong. I was able to remove the generator and install the new one without dropping the motor. I have a 36hrs shroud on a 1776 motor. When I tightened the nut in the back of the shroud to snug the generator pully no longer moved freely. I am wondering if I dropped some shims when I pulled the old one out? I didn't hear anything. Is there a proper way to tighten this in order to achieve a freely moving fan?
