We've finally gotten far enough along to think we may race some day. Here's some photos.

But can't figure it out! Coil overs now gone in favor of 29mm bars and adjustable spring plate and RLR shocks.

Looks cool, how quick have you gone? whats the engine specs?

thanks
We haven't even fired it up yet. Still got work to do. Someone stole our trailer last week, so there's another delay and expense. It's 2165cc 12:1. 98x78.4, Wiseco pistons, FK 89 cam CB WedgePort heads. We're new to VW racing so really ignorant.

Sounds a decent combination, should be fun:)

just remember it's not a chevy, but it dosent know it:eek:
Well, even though winter has nearly arrived, tomorrow is the day. Unless something really weird occurs the car hits the strip Friday the 13th. Is that bad luck or something? Test and tune session and start finding out how to make a VW run. Lots to learn. I'll report in Saturday with details.

Good luck and have fun:)
Finally got to the strip this afternoon. Had starter/battery problems. As you know we've had it running and even a problematic launch attempt in front of the shop. But today it just wouldn't start. Fresh battery, new(rebuilt) starter. When cranking voltage would fall to 8 volts. We weren't about to give up easily, after taking so long to get to a track. We pulled it and it started immediately. Drove straight to the staging lanes and was only two back. Car went 1.607, 60 ft, 7.61 at 88.98 for the 1/8. I was well pleased for a first pass on the car, our first VW and my first pass in a race car in over 35 years. Due to starting problems, we just loaded it up after that. We plan to install a 16V battery this week and maybe try again next weekend. I'm sure we can get another .3 or .4 out of it, once I get used to driving it and we do a little tweaking here and there. Anybody using 16V battery? Do I need to do anything about other systems/equipment for the additional voltage?
Edit .....it was late last night....I'm aware that I really need to direct my attention to my 60' time. But it'll take a few passes to adjust things. I'm encouraged by the top end speed however.

Sucks you had those problems but well done for persevering and getting a pass in, 60ft isn't to bad at all for 1st ever pass in a VW:)

What starter are you using? a IHI high torque with 12v battery still should be plenty.
If you go 16v make sure your fuel pump is ok with it, stuff like msd works fine with 16v
Hey Will, where can i get an IHI starter? If we decide to go that route. We still think we're gonna go with the 16V battery. Most of the info I can gather indicates bulbs may be the only victim of 16v. Pumps, fans etc., seem OK, so "they" say. I haven't been able to get any info on line lock however.

Line lock is fine with 16v, most Aircooled VW performance parts retailers should have the starter, not sure what you got near you to get parts from ?
