Ah, determination & motivation. People could learn from you!
ummm.... the racer is a 3+ year stagnant project and the ghia has sat idle for 1 year. not sure i'm a roll model for anything but procrastination.
well, i spent the day replacing all the parts i apparently gave away over the last year (doh!) but, the engine has everything on it except the valve cover hoses and alternator. the latter goes on tonight and then i'll stuff the engine in! woot

5:47pm the car was back on the ground! just needs the exhaust fixed... kymco sucks! the brake lines bent... and i need to figure out what 3 wires go to.

here's the car after i rolled it back and forth to settle the torsions after the adjustment. that's some serious rake w/the 165/45/15s!!!

Did you get as far as you had hoped?

Cars look great dude!
i've got brake lines to bend, a couple wires to sort (labels wore off) and a deep sump to add. so, yeah, i think so. the n2o stuff will have to get added over the winter.
Right on, always nice to see another car back on the road!!

I am with you, need to get mine back driving soon
well... the track i've been hoping to visit before the end of the year will probably be a mystery for me until next year. ah well, i'd rather have the car done, and done right that to rush something a screw everything up.

the one irony about it all is that the only VW that currently runs there has an owner that seems to think i've wronged him by not getting there. he berates me on my reasons for not being ready, tells me to man up and tell my wife i'm going to work in the garage or go to the track and that i'm not a man because i include her in my decision/time management/financial commitments, and seems to have a general burr up his backside about my wanting to be involved, even if it is only in the track's forum for now. part of me wants to tell him to blow, but most of me figures he must be having some struggles in life if he wants to kick the only other person there that is wanting to run a VW. i dunno, but it has sure put a distaste in my mouth.

That pisses me off, I wish I was closer to you because I would come to the track with you and share some pearls of wisdom with this "racing legend"!

Don't let him get you down! Stick with it and do it for you, not anything to do with him.

Were glad to have you here on this forum and your always welcome.

The only one getting hassled for not making it out is Clint, cause basically he just needs to put gas in it!! LOL ;) ;D

Hang tough dude, you got friends here!

You going to make it down for Bug O Rama Aug 31st? If you do please let us know and we will make sure you enjoy the hell out of the event!!
sac/bor is no longer a viable event for me... in the summer it is almost always the weekend of my 2 year old's birthday (i know... poor planning) and the fall event is always the weekend students start arriving at my school.

if i can get this silly car evers orted and ready, i plan on making a trek next year to redding, but that's probably as south as i will get.
well crap...

the starter won't turn... not sure if it bound up or died. either way, it's dark and i'm done for the evening. very disappointed, as i thought i was going to get to here it rumble w/ the muffler.
Hate that when it happens, check the starter tomorrow, itll be ok!

Hope you can make a BOR some year, you wont regret it!

If not maybe we will cross paths somewhere lese
pretty depressed right now... i found my no fire issue. my distributor drive gear is not spinning or apparently seated. i pulled my 009 from the speedster to see if i had a bad condensor. the distributor would drop the entire way in. i have no idea what happened. i've never turned the engine without a distributor in it. i only inverted the engine on the stand after i added the distributor. the engine has been on my stand for 2 years, so there is no way it's gonna be under any warranty. it's not the builder's fault that i took so long to install it. it looks like i'm going to have to tear the entire thing down and find out what is now damaged and how much metal shavings are in the case. this sets me back so freaking far now. augh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
anyone know a way to get a jammed dizzy drive gear without the tool or splitting the case?
Hang in there dude, at least you found the problem
you could possibly try some needle nose pliers forcing them opened inside the bore and try to rotate it counterclockwise while pulling upwards.
hope that helps.
