Here is the bug that wrecked at the last BOR May 23rd 2008 on Friday night Test n Tune.

Nice clean bug that seemed to just stay in the throttle a little long after getting squirrelly.

I got a call at the shop one day from the neighbor. A crew was repaving the street in front of our house that day. Once they were done they loaded the steam roller into a flatbed. As they were driving away the top of the steam roller clipped a tree in front of our house....

Driver - On the phone trying to explain what just happened to his supervisor.

This is a picture of a late model Bug crushed from earthquake debris in the Loma Preita-Bay Area quake. I was actually in Redwood City that day and that hour delivering windows and doors to a condo project. We only lost a few peices of glass that day, 4 foot by 8 foot sliding door panels falling off flat bed truck from shaking. The ground moved back and forth at least 2 or 3 feet in each direction, I have never seen ground move like that.

This car was hit in the rear and pushed into oncoming traffic. A SUV coming from the other direction climbed up the hood, onto the roof and then it rolled onto it's passenger side.

I remember this.
Yea, definitly scary. I think his name was Chad.. ??? He came across the other lane and almost hit the guy he was racing, Barron Suratt. Close one. Quote from Barron: "This aint business 80 dude, wutchu doin?"
ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT
Some of you know this car. It belonged to Joe Borba from Riverbank, Ca. in Central Cal. It was powered by a 1600cc turbo. As I remember, Joe went with a small stroke crank and used big p/c to achieve 1600cc. The car was always one of my underdog favorites. I dont remember what his times were excatly, but I am thinking, between 10s and 11s. This wreck was especially scary because as soon as they pulled Joe out of the car and layed him down to see if he was ok, the brush around the car caught fire. The track officials and bystanders were able to put the fire out before it did and damage, but the car as you can see, was a total loss.

This is another pic of Joe racing a green 67 Bug. I remember that 67 being extra fast.

For Joe's car.
11.55 for a 1600cc engine, I would say that is pretty good.

This is the turbo dragster of the Pizzo Brothers. As I remember it, Duane was driving, but I could be wrong. The first picture shows a very faint puff of dirt about half track, you can just barely see the front wheel above the guard rail. That is where the dragster ended up after doing a complete flip and landing on the back tire, see second pic of GOODYEAR on the asphalt. That is also Joe Borba, of Attitude Adjustment fame, in the green sweats, checking on one of his fellow racers to see if he is ok.

Pizzo dragster and Godfrey Ghia at Bakersfield, early 80s.

These photo are bad! :-[ Hope everyone was ok
Although not VW, this was a scary wreck at Fremont Raceway back when I was a youngin.

The car was already out of control and up on two wheels.

He hit the guard rail almost head on.

I met my wife in late 1985 and she was driving this green 69 Bug. One day she was driving past the local Cinedome theater here in Sac and a guy was stopped at a green light in front of her. Before she had a chance to stop, she swerved to miss him and hit the curb and over she went. She did get out with just bumps and bruises, but car was a total loss.
