I need to redo the drum brakes on the rear of my manx buggy drag car, weighs about 1360lbs with me in it.

It's currently got type 3 drums, rear only and it pulls up ok.

I have two options, either rebuild the existing setup or a friend has a disc brake setup I can have, basically a 914 style disc to go on the type 3 drive flange and a standard beetle caliper, bracket etc.

Does anyone have any idea which would be heavier and if the disc brakes would be a noticable improvement? Fade isn't really an issue for one stop so I'm leaning towards the drums.
Thanks.

I am interested in this question too. I have the CB rotohub rotors, which are a one piece setup. They weigh 17.6 lbs each. My stock drums weighed 12.6 lbs each, a huge step in the wrong direction. The 914 rotors on the hubs LOOK lighter, but I would love some actual numbers before I do the switch.

yeah rear only, and those setups above look great but I am limited to the options I've already listed, ie stock style setups. $$$ unfortunately. I'm really leaning towards keeping the drums at this stage.

Look up grey area technologies. Light weight very strong and beautifully machined. And around $600

What do they weigh? I bet the RLR Chevy ones are lighter. Looks like a good choice for wide fives.
